Zero Waste, by Design

A quieter way to make clothes.

At Studio Alashanghai Silk, we don’t believe in surplus.

No warehouses stacked with unsold stock. No synthetic fabrics pretending to be silk. Only Mulberry silk and other natural fibre—chosen for how they feel against skin, how they breathe, and how they age.

Most of our garments are cut on the bias—a slower, more exacting technique. The drape becomes fluid, alive. But this method also leaves behind shapes of fabric too beautiful to waste. Instead of discarding them, we turn them into small, gentle things: a scrunchie, a tiny camisole, a soft cover-up. Nothing forced. Just cloth continuing its life in another form.

What you see here are not leftovers.

They are design samples and tailor’s prototypes—the only ones ever made. Pieces once used to refine a neckline, test a drape, guide a hand. Now they wait for someone to wear them—not store them.

Less polyester in the world. Fewer traces on the earth.
